New Platform for Junior Golfers Launched at The American School of Bangkok

26.01.2015

Celebrated US and Thai PGA golf professional Tony Meechai announced the launch of the International Preparatory Golf Academy (IPGA), to be permanently housed at The American School of Bangkok (ASB) on Bangna-Trad Highway adjacent to Green Valley Bangna Golf Course.

Meechai confirmed the IPGA golf program will be the only junior golf academy in Southeast Asia that combines the essential elements for those interested in pursuing a competitive path towards an overseas collegiate level or the professional ranks, namely an fully accredited academic institution; a top-quality golf program with the facilities to offer specially-focused training and competition; and ready access to a challenging, high-quality golf course.

“We are highly excited to assist in the establishment of the IPGA at The American School of Bangkok! There are junior golfers with a passion to get an education in the United States, but can’t afford the travel costs and tuition at the golf academies in the United States. Most parents I have met don’t want their children to leave home at such an early age. The IPGA is another opportunity for those families with junior golfers who want to stay in the region before going to the United States for higher education and golf competition.” Says Meechai, a US PGA Professional based in Thailand since 1998.

The IPGA follows international standards and is led by PGA of America professionals. Each student has a customized ‘plan’ which is a comprehensive approach to help students accelerate their development in the technical areas of their sport but more importantly, in the areas of mental composure, nutrition, fitness, academics and social and life skills.

“The American School of Bangkok is proud of the success of the Golf Program and believes the timing is right to dedicate resources to establish a proper International Golf Academy. Tony Meechai has a professional network and we want our current junior golfers and future students to enjoy the benefits of the game of golf! Students at ASB have received scholarships which is a great accomplishment.” Says Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul, Founder and Director of The American School of Bangkok.

At ASB, the Student-athletes are provided with a supportive and challenging academic environment, which follows a fully accredited U.S. Curriculum. The IPGA training helps them embrace the key qualities of goal setting and commitment, powered by a consistent work ethic that provides a direct and positive impact on their academics, golf, and personal objectives.

“Our objective is to graduate well-educated student athletes who are prepared both mentally and physically to take their place in the world and succeed at the highest levels in both golf and life,” explained Meechai, adding, “we are working with a number of institutions overseas to ensure that our students and graduates find acceptance in golf programs at some of the finest institutions in the world.”
